Watching: After watching the terrific documentary “Zeitgeist”, my mind was a little bit blown (although not very much as I’m a fan of David Icke and such like). However I am part of a steering group of people running a series of events under the banner of Transition Wolverton. We kicked off our five month series of awareness raising events last night with a screening of “A Crude Awakening” It’s documentary that explains the reality behind the worldwide oil supply situation. It’s quite a depressing film because it shows that we’ve not got as much oil as some would have us believe, and we (meaning the inhabitants of the planet) are on the whole woefully underprepared for the consequences of this situation. If you’re feeling it, you can download the film here, but you can also buy it from Amazon.
It’s worth a watch, it actually is an inconvenient truth.

Reading: I’ve been catching up on some quality comics lately and I have to confess I am a Marvel fan, in preference to DC Comics. Always have been, and probably always will be. Recent discoveries on my part are Invincible Iron Fist (which has brought a side character from Marvel past right up to date and given him the back history that he deserves), Incredible Hercules (which combines intelligent mythical story telling with some pretty groovy art) and Old Man Logan (the latest Wolverine story by Mark Millar, who could take a crap on a comic book page and it would still be better than the average). If you get a chance and it tickles your fancy, check them out!

Listening to:

I have been a fan of Tindersticks since I was at University when my mate Brian Doherty got me into them. Brian was very cutting edge with his music, and would lose interest in a band the minute they became successful. Tindersticks have always flirted around the periphery of success but have established a firm cult following. The unique baritone style of Stuart A. Staples takes a little bit of getting used to, but once you do you realise that their songs are beautifully crafted pieces, often poignant in their storytelling. Check out the video for Travelling Light here and perhaps you’ll understand their timelessness. I could listen to them for hours…
