Craftster Pick of the Week! – Benjibot

by Beefranck on 8 February 2009

Time for another look at some of the great work featured in the Needlecraft section at Craftster. Note: Although they’re the pick of this week, they may have appeared before this week.

The pick this week was over a year in the making. It’s benjibot’s epic work, all 40 monsters from the NES game Dragon Warrior represented in cross stitch form.

It started off with a Slime:

Then into the tougher monsters:

And finally, the Dragonlord in his final form:

You can see more pictures in the original post on Craftster or the set in benjibot’s photostream on flickr. The best place to go for a really in-depth look with information on each monster is the special section of his blog – which is full of all kinds of cool stuff. Thanks to his etsy shop, you can even own one of these bad boys!

The amount of work that went into this is mind-boggling. I was lucky enough to watch the project unfold on flickr over the last year. It was really great to see it all come together with the final piece. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing his future projects!

Oh, each one only takes a day or three depending on how industrious I felt like being that day. So you just take that, multiply it by 40, and then add in all the time I spent pulling out stitches because I have trouble counting sometimes, and you’re left with… well, a number.

I need to get crackin’ on putting the rest of these up on The Etsy. I’ve hesitated because a.) filling in the tags was getting tedious and b.) I’m not sure I’m charging enough but as I’ve not had a sale yet it’s hard to know what’s fair.
