This Week I Have Mostly Been… 200209

by Mr X Stitch on 20 February 2009

Okay, so last week I missed out on doing this post. But that’s okay as I wasn’t doing much watching, reading or listening to anyway… :)

Watching: This isn’t a “Watching” in the traditional sense, more a “Looking at” but I just wanted to rave on about the Brothers Brick blog. This is one of many blogs that highlight advanced Lego techniques. And I love it. Most of us would have had Lego as kids, I had a bit, but this site just shows how creative you can get if you carry on playing with the stuff into adulthood. And sometimes it just blows me away. Lego’s so darned expensive these days that I can’t even begin to try this stuff, but I just watch the new things being posted – vehicles, towns, space ships, apocalyptic views of the future – and get very envious. It’s awesome.

Reading: Watchmen. My Absolute Watchmen is one of my prized possessions as I was able to get Alan Moore to sign it for me (and he never does signings). I’m re-reading it prior to the film coming out in March and if any of you are thinking of seeing the film, I’d recommend reading the graphic novel first. This series came out at the same time as Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns” and between them they changed the face of comics forever. Seriously. This is an awesome piece of work, and should be explored in it’s original format (graphic novel) wherever possible. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the film will be good, but it will merely be a reproduction of the original piece of art that is the comic book.

Listening to: Last.fm I signed up to this a while ago and I’m digging it. If the interweb strands are strong enough, I can listen to whatever type of music fits my mood. Some days it’s breakbeat, recently (for some reason) it’s been heavy metal from the late 1990’s. But that’s me for you – a mixed bag of madness. If you join, we can become Last.fm friends apparently. And bounce musical influences off one another. Could be fun – Mr X Stitch radio anyone?

I’m reading Watchmen too! I wanted to read it before we went to see the movie. So far, it’s awesome!

I can’t wait to see Watchmen, it looks awesome. I haven’t read a graphic novel since Sam and Max, but it sounds like this one might be worth a try.

I joined last.fm when I saw the widget for it on the site, and I like it. There’s even an iPhone application for it. I’ve found a lot of music I like by trying out the recommended tracks or other people’s favorites.

If you only ever read one graphic novel, Watchmen would have to be it.
