The Cutting & Stitching Edge – Nicole Licht

by Mr X on 4 March 2009

Nicole Licht is a textile artist from Brooklyn, New York. She’s great.

She embroiders a range of subjects, but we love her mainly for her soft sculptures.

The ghosts are terrific – you wouldn’t mind them floating through your hallways! And as for the deer! Just brilliant.

Nicole’s work has been featured at Gallery Hanahou in New York, which looks like a great place if you like your contemporary embroidery. I’d be there all the time if I wasn’t on the other side of the planet.

Go and check out her Flickr stream and her etsy shop and give her the big love she deserves!

Nicole is one of the most talented artists ever. I am lucky enough to host some of her creatures & creations here, in my very flat, and I love them to pieces. They are the most beautiful things I own.Oh ! And, she's the cutest. She deserves all the very best. x x x ___mathyld___

Nicole's work is stunning, I was lucky enough to see her embroidery (the three pieces pictured here) up close at a recent exhibit at Gallery Hanahou.I just purchased one of her "personal island" pin cushions -- can't wait to get it!

I want one of those deer. Totally. Nicole's one cool chick!

She's wonderful. If I had the cash my house would be FILLED with her ghosts. Especially this one - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&listing_id=21804950 *love*

Her work is fantastic! I love the wall hangings-the bits of animals and abstract shapes. Also the juxtaposition of the animals like the tiger and wolves done with thread gives them a different meaning. And the stuffed pieces are great becuase it's like they are from a different time and made with scraps of whatever's available. Really great. Thanks for sharing.
