Beefranck’s Emporium – Big stitches!

This week I wanted to show you all some of the great oversized stitches I’ve seen over at the Subversive Cross Stitch flickr group. There’s something really special about a large scale snarky stitch. I mean, think of all the time and energy that went into them, just to make you laugh, think, or both. Bart Simpson said it best when he stated: “That’s what you call commitment to a bit.”

This stitch was created by marciawood3 on flickr, and it’s a perfect example – huge lettering, magnificent border, simple snarky message:
crap

This one was created by cross-stitch ninja from Radical Cross Stitch. It’s truly awe inspiring, in regards to both the size and the message.
rage

This next piece was created by VSC, a subversive stitcher I featured in February. She and her partner were planning on getting married this year, and then Prop 8 was placed on the ballot in California. She spent several months involved in protests and lending her support to No on Prop 8, but unfortunately it passed. One way for VSC to work through her rage regarding this while also providing some commentary on America today was modifying this patriotic sampler:
gaping

I found this giant band sampler in turning*turning’s photostream on flickr. It’s simply amazing!

You can read more about the making of this and more about band samplers in general at her blog.

This last stitch has not been completed, only charted, but if let215 ever decides to stitch it, wow. I mean, wow. It’s an abridged version of Christian Bale’s rant.
speech
See a larger version of it here. I personally want to stitch that one up, place it in a gorgeous frame, and ship it to Christian Bale with a note attached that says: “Why the HELL couldn’t you speak this cleary in Dark Knight? What, did you need a lozenge or something? Sheesh!”

Until next time, remember: Big is beautiful!

Imagine my surprise to see my work featured while I made my rounds this morning. Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the band sampler. Personally, having also been involved in the Prop 8 fight, I am madly in love with the patriotic sampler but hadn’t yet seen it. Thanks for sharing all the subversion!

I cannot explain how much I love, and want to own, Cross Stitch Ninja’s sublimation piece. It’s astonishing.

Mal – your band sampler is amazing. I stitched the Obama pattern myself and I thought THAT was a lot of stitches by itself!

Awesomeness! I may have to do that Christian Bale rant. That seriously cracks me up.

Dude, that Christian Bale rant is priceless. I can’t imagine trying to stitch that up though. Or…can I..?

These are all excellent! I’m in love with the orange and black piece by VSC. And someone NEEDS to stitch the Christian Bale pattern. I’d do it myself if I wasn’t so backed up with planned projects.

Oooop, I think we have a mix up – the rage piece is cross stitch ninja’s, the American sampler is VSC’s. But yes, they all rule. :)

I’m so glad you like my sublimation piece. It’s one of my favourites too, I think it sums up pretty well what I do. :)
