The Cutting & Stitching Edge – Mortal Plush

by Beefranck on 26 March 2009

cutting-stitching-edgeTobiah P. Mundt is an extremely talented needle felter.
azurShe makes amazing little creatures, the likes of which you have never seen before and will never see again.
roscoeMeet Calvin, Dax, and Donny. As you can tell they all have large appetites, even if their tastes vary a little:
sugarfootsThis piece is called Acacia. She’s a tree sporting wire branches and some hot pink fruit, and she is simply amazing:
acaciaTobiah does an incredible job of instilling her works with emotions. Perhaps that is why she has become involved with Mortal Plush: I am not your toy – an exhibit being put on by the Art Whino Gallery In Washington, DC. The point of Mortal Plush is to exhibit plush art that conveys emotion. A link to a list of emotions via wikipedia has been provided to inspire the artists involved. This is not just a matter of happy and sad.
mortalplushYou can read more about it at the official Mortal Plush site or check out the flickr group that Tobiah started for it – I highly recommend it as you can see some really inspiring stuff there already, and the selections for the show haven’t even been made yet!
Below is Tobiah’s contribution to the group, Chops:
chopsThe deadline for entries for the show is May 1st and the show will take place July 11th through August 11th. We here at MrXStitch will be keeping tabs on Mortal Plush as the time for the show draws closer. Interested in submitting something yourself? Go here to find out how!

If you want to see more of Tobiah’s work, you can check out her flickr photostream, her blog and her website. She even has some tutorials posted if you would like to try needle felting yourself, and she sells kits at her etsy store. Go check it out!

Lots of teeth and no eyes is the creepiest combination, but still I can’t stop looking at it. These are amazing.
