I love the way she looks straight at you – it’s very arresting. Then you consider that her gaze is a series of stitches, like the collection of photographic grains, or tv pixels. I like this reduction of a reproduction, it has the layering required of art today. It makes me question the nature of images in general, the very fabric of them, and even images of me, my family or friends (I particularly love portraiture in all media). As someone who designed some 70s porn cross stitch designs as a commission for A WEDDING PRESENT…. like it!

(Actually what was funnier was when my husband would come home and I’d be there trying to get the nipple to look right and he’d just watch a moment, make a suggestion or two and wander down and make us a cup of tea. As if that’s exactly what a husband expects to find when he comes home.)
