Happy Monday, everyone! This week I’m going to be drooling all over the work of one of my favorite embroiderers, Porterness, aka Jennifer Porter.

Jennifer’s work has a style that is classic and unique at the same time. Her stitching has the feel of a sketch and highlights her skill as an artist.

Jennifer lists Carl Jung as an inspiration for certain works. Some of her work revolves around the story of John and Pricilla, two intertwined characters that, quoting Jennifer, “tell a on going story of love and loss to explore what we all have hidden in our shadows.” In this piece, the universe toys with Pricilla.

This work shows John contemplating a life without Pricilla.

This work is called “A Cake for John” – I’m not sure what the meaning is, but I’m fascinated by it.

Aside from the John and Pricilla series, Jennifer does beautiful and thought-provoking stand-alone pieces. This one is titled “A Penny for Your Thoughts.”

Her work has the perfect mix of artistic and technical skill and a leaning towards the surreal which adds to its allure.
You can see more of Jennifer’s embroideries in her flickr photostream. If you’d like to own one, you can visit her etsy store, where you will also find beautiful jewelry and cool greeting cards. Go there now!

Porterness is a true artist. The style of her work is immaculate and the dark humour is sublime.
I love her to bits.
I think I’m in love…what brilliant work!
These are great! I love surrealism.
Jennifer does some first rate work. I like looking at her work. At times it is both symbolic and concrete. Jung spoke of archetypes. maybe John and Pricilla are archtypes: The Syzygy (Divine Couple)
If one comes to terms with the Shadow and the Soul, one will encounter the enchanted castle with its King and Queen. This is a pattern of wholeness and integration. The opposites of the outer and the inner life are now joined in marriage. Great power arises from this integration. Christ and the Church, God and Israel are syzygy images. The believer who aspires to be the “bride of Christ” is modeling his or her experience in response to the syzygy archetype.
