Thanks to all the groovy people who alerted me to this show, taking place from 6th June to 9th September at Bildmusset, Umeå University in Umeå, Sweden. The exhibition “presents artworks that use embroidery and code as a tool for participatory production and distribution. The project explores how the open source software development model has been incorporated into the language of cultural participation, involving interdisciplinary approaches to skill-share and collaboration. The exhibition includes material and digital works that make visible the physical characteristics of technology and social communications networks. “
It features some of the best science and technology embroiderers, including Mr X Stitch favourite, Becky Stern, and is part of the Open Source Embroidery project.
It looks awesome and I wish I could go. Anyone who is in the region is welcome to report back to us on how magnificent it was.
