Today is a special day in the history of space exploration. It’s the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar mission. To celebrate this, I wanted to share this amazing embroidery from beche-la-mer.

She used a topographical map of the far side of the moon as a reference. Over a month of work went into this, and it shows.

Simply stunning. See what else beche-la-mer has been up to (hyperbolic crochet, anyone?) at her blog.

Holy cow (jumping over the moon)! Is that entire thing comprised of French knots? Jeepers!
Most of it is, there are a few spots that I think she filled in with satin stitches. You can see that better here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/67729910@N00/83684546/in/photostream/
The way she mapped out this design is simply awe-inspiring to me.
wow! that’s amazing!
What a wonderful project and so beautifully executed!
