Domestitchery is where we take a look at how talented people make ordinary domestic items extraordinary through creative needlework.
Tara Badcock makes amazing tea cosies (or “tea cozies” for we Americans)! She incorporates all manner of textiles and further embellishes with hand and freehand machine embroidery, beads, hardware, and natural elements including bones.

Her ongoing Teacosy* Revolution project has me enamored of just how far one can go in making a practical household object into a work of art.

I don’t know if the private collectors of her works and commissions actually use their cosies for their utilitarian purpose, but I hope they do at least once in a while.

I encourage you to check out her flickr stream to see the huge variety of themes, materials and styles, because there is so much more than could fit here. Tara also elevates several other categories of houshold items to works of art; visit her flickr stream and her upcoming website to share my awe.
The Mistress T is a scumbler and plastrix by day and a craft dabbler by night. Her mottoes include “any excuse for a costume” and “there’s no such thing as too much carpincho.”

Terrific post, the Mistress T! Anything that elevates household items to art is good with me. You should see the way I arrange clothes on my airer – I think it’s art. Most other people think it’s OCD.
These are very cool cosies. Cozies? I like cosy, it seems softer.
Weclome, Tara!
All of Tara’s work is so desireable! I’d drink pots and pots of tea to have several of these tea cozies :}
This makes me want a tea pot just to have a kick ass cozy!
Isn’t her work just dreamy? I’m just so happy I found her. I love that we share a name, too… or at least the spelling of.
