The Fifth Friday Festival of Fabulousness

It’s a fifth Friday and that means it’s the Festival of Fabulousness! A chance for us to show off other corners of the Stitching world that might not necessarily be mentioned in other places. We’re pleased that our first post comes from the fantastic The Mistress T, our Domestitchery goddess. So without further ado…

———-

As those of us gathered here know, there has been a resurgence  and expansion of the popularity of crafting and especially needlework over the last few years. Within the last year or so I’ve also noticed an the influence of that popularity on decoration in other media; little stitches of clay on ceramics vases, ink on letterpress greeting cards cards, etc.  When I came upon this high-quality designer wallpaper I really wanted to share it with the fine folks at Mr X Stitch.

Eijffinger04

Dutch company Eijffinger put traditional cross stitch motifs on the whole wall.

Similar but with a bit more of visual impact.

And finally modernizing traditional cross stitch by blowing it up for the children’s line, even though I’m sure there are plenty of adults who find this appealing for themselves.

Of course, resurgence and evolution of needlework is influencing individuals as well as manufacturers.  Alex Merto used Deco markers on glass in this store window for Design Within Reach.

When I read that there are over 53,000 little Xes I was taken aback… then I remembered that how many actual thread-and-needle cross stitch pieces have so many stitches.  All hail the cross stitchers!

Window02

The Mistress T is a scumbler and plastrix by day and a craft dabbler by night. Her mottoes include “any excuse for a costume” and “there’s no such thing as too much carpincho.”

Great post though, thanks TheMistressT!

Wow that Eijffinger paper is incredible. I wonder if my boyfriend would notice if I papered the whole appartment like that while he’s away. Or my landlord to think of it…
