FFFoF – Free Royal Wedding Cross Stitch pattern!

by Mr X on 31 December 2010

Make yourself comfortable,  I have a tale to tell…

Julie Jackson, the mastermind behind Subversive Cross Stitch and Kitty Wigs, got in touch with Beefranck and I about a project she’d been invited to do. The people at the Independent newspaper wanted to run a feature in their weekend section in honour of the impending Royal Wedding here in the UK.

They asked some of the freshest new craft designers to come up with their own takes on Royal Wedding memorabilia, and in a truly astonishing brainstorming session the three of us created the following pattern, which we are pleased to offer you for free download:

“Keep Calm and Marry On – A Royal Wedding brought to you in association with the Coalition Government” is our contribution to the debate, gently observing that a Royal Wedding is a useful tool for making a battered society feel better about itself.

Between the three of us we thrashed out the design and then called on the services of the mighty Shae to stitch the piece for us. Shae came up trumps and completed the piece in no time at all and we sent our submission to the paper. All was well, the editor was pleased and we started to get a bit excited. Maybe this would give stitchery another nudge into the mainstream?

We eagerly awaited the publication of the newspaper, hoping to see our pattern in with the other entries. Friends and family members joined in our anticipation. But alas, our hopes were dashed.

For some reason the article featured ten crafty designer talents, and it seemed that we were number 11. We didn’t make it into the paper, and when the editor realised, she engineered our inclusion in the online version of the article.

So there you have it, a poignant tale of an opportunity that never quite materialised.

However, let us not be disheartened! Because you can still get your hands on this fantastic pattern by downloading it from the Subversive Cross Stitch site for free! Download it, print the pattern, stitch the sampler and start a craze! Once people see that you’ve got one, they’ll all want it!

This is awesome! Boo to the Independent for not putting it in the paper.

Love it! <3 Thank you for sharing.

So cool! And so true! And such a bummer that they didn't put it the print version!
