Book Review – The Complete Guide to Customising Your Clothes by Rain Blanken

It’s been a long time since my burlesque days and therefore a long time since I did any major customising of clothes. But it’s really great to see that there are some cool ways that you can upcycle your wardrobe. Rain Blanken’s new book, The Complete Guide to Customising Your Clothes: Techniques and Tutorials for Personalising Your Wardrobe is a great introduction the subject.

The book covers six main types of customisation, including in-depth sections on embellishing, deconstruction and printing as well as specialist techniques including embossing and embroidery.

There are big pages of instruction on different techniques with some really smart ideas. There are ideas for all kinds of clothing and accessories, given you the skills to complete funk up your wardrobe.

One of the things I like about this book is the interviews with designers and inspiration pages. I really liked Raygun Robin’s bleaching work and it was cool to see Aimee Ray’s embroidery included in there.
