Exploring Etsy with loadofolbobbins!

With grey gloomy days coming thick and fast over here, I thought we could all do with a bit more sparkle in our lives – there’s nothing like a bit of razzle dazzle to brighten up your day. So, like a crafting magpie I’ve scoured through the Etsy needlework vaults on the lookout for all things shiny and beautiful. I can now present to you someone who definitely knows a thing or two about the power of glitter, today’s featured maker Becca Navin who’s shop ‘Textiles By Becca’ is an absolute masterclass in sequins.

Becca studied for a BA Hons in Contemporary Textiles at CCAD in Hartlepool, graduating in 2016. Ever since, she has been working on and developing her small business as a designer maker. Specialising in embroidery, embellishment and digital print, Becca likes to combine these techniques to create exciting innovative contemporary products. She also likes to combine her traditional embroidery skills with more modern materials like acrylic. Using sequins, beads and glitter within her work she creates visually attractive and fun products to suit a wide range of people of all ages. Alongside her current interior and gift ranges, Becca loves taking commissions from customers and using her style to create something different and unique for them: ‘I love a challenge and every etsy kerching makes me just as happy as the previous one!’

What is your earliest stitching memory?

My first stitching memory is from when I was around 7 in Primary School. We all made a cross stitch bookmark, I picked it up quickly and from then I loved getting little cross stitch projects to complete after school. I remember making a Winnie the Pooh piece and framing it to hang on my bedroom wall!

What fires your imagination?

Everything! I like to create collections of products based on different themes. I sometimes get bored easily so tend to change up the themes and topics I’m working on a lot! I love creating seasonal products too, I’m a big fan of Christmas so love creating products for that! Everything I make is full of colour and embellishment!

I’d be lying if I said my mind wasn’t blown by what Becca can do with a sequin, her ability to use these materials in such a painterly way is quite staggering and definitely deserves a closer look. So pop on over to her shop and see what other wonders she has in store for you. Maybe you could even provide her with one of those fabulous Etsy kerching sounds!
