Time for another look at some of the great work featured in the forums at Craftster. Note: Although they’re the pick of this week, they may have appeared before this week.
This week’s pick is brought to us by spiffysheep20. I give you the Hitch Hiking Our Lady of Guadalupe:
The story behind this piece is a great one. It turns out spiffysheep20 and her boyfriend hitch hiked from San Diego to Portland recently, and at some point during their adventure they found a vending machine that dispenses Saints. I had to see this – you can find an example of one here. Anyway, they fed the machine 50 cents and out came the Lady, making her the patron saint of their trip. That inspired her to create this stitch when they returned, a project that took her 5 months to complete.
In the original craftster post spiffysheep20 said she hoped the effort and time is recognized “because the skill is seriously lacking” – I strongly disagree. I think this is some excellent stitching, especially considering that this is her first project. Amazing!
One of the fun things about this piece is the little details she inserted into it. You can read about all of them in the original post, but my favorite is the WWJPU across the bottom. That stands for “Who Would Jesus Pick Up?” Answer: everyone! Love it. 🙂 Please post more, spiffysheep20!
