Hello dear readers and fellow needlecraft enthusiasts, it’s time to whip out that craft passport again as I whisk you away on another antipodean adventure. Today’s offering is brought to you by the wonders of beads, silver, vibrant colour and a little cross stitch thrown in for good measure. Not only is this a magpie’s idea of heaven, it’s mine and undoubtedly yours too! Rosie Shelton’s glorious shop ‘La Luna Rose Jewellery’ is a masterclass in pattern and colour and it’s now my lucky job to share her beautiful work with you all.
Rosie the Kiwi creator behind ‘La Luna Rose’ hails from a very talented and creative mum. Sewing and crafting has always been a number one go-to hobby on her weekends, and during school holidays, so it was almost inevitable that she eventually developed her own style and product. ‘La Luna Rose’ launched just 18 months ago after she was searching for a special piece of jewellery that was made from a good quality metal and had a punch of colour to it. Not wanting anything with crystals or semi-precious gemstones, she wanted something bright, something neon that would stand the test of time. And so the designs began and haven’t stopped since, creating exquisite sterling silver jewellery with powerful blasts of pattern and colour created by her stunning hand-beading or hand-sewing.
What is your earliest stitching memory?
My earliest stitching memory would have to be when I was 6 years old and at school, we got given a large piece of hessian and an almost just as large needle with woollen thread! I somehow created the coolest looking T-Rex outline in long stitch that I was still super proud of 10 years later…and still am now! In fact, the teacher was so impressed with my long-stitching skills (Mum had me sewing well before this!), that I was shipped off to the Principal’s office to share my work. T-Rex was then made into a pillow that sits in our family home to this very day. ( I wish I had a photo to share!)
What fires your imagination?
Colour. Travel. Adventures. Cacti and anything geometric! Everyday I am inspired by my surroundings whether it’s a morning run through the bush or a rad colour combination on a restaurant sign – my brain doesn’t seem to have the off switch! If I am ever at a road block creatively, a long walk along the beach is guaranteed to get the creative juices flowing!
Mixing her love of the finer, more organic detail with the solid structure that a quality metal like sterling silver has ‘La Luna Rose Jewellery’ is a real gem of a shop. Rosie loves sharing her unique and colourful treats with the world so head on over and see what other delights await you. Keep an eye out for the launch of her new range in September…..“sewing takes on geometry” is all she can say for now!
