Technology has been impacting art and craft in many different ways, and the combination of some of these technologies and techniques can result in some very cool mixed media thread based art. Artist Linda Calverley, based in the UK, has been experimenting with not only freestyle machine embroidery, but using digitally printed fabrics to create some of her pieces.
After working in the textile industry for a few years, Linda went back to school and found a new revelation in her art:
“The degree course pushed the boundaries out and as well as using the more traditional methods of mark making, an interest in computer technology developed which resulted in my final project including digital printing on fabric … All these techniques have given me a wide range of mediums to work with and I like to combine several of them together to produce different textures on the same piece of work.”
