Claire Barrett - Hawthorne & HeaneyClaire Barrett is an embroidery designer who has been working in the embroidery industry for six years.  After finishing a gold work drafting apprenticeship at Hand & Lock Claire became Creative Director and remained there for four years before leaving to start her own venture. Hawthorne & Heaney has been going for two years and has gone from strength to strength, dealing with celebrity clients such as Kanye West and high profile companies such as Henry Poole & Company Savile Row tailors.

Claire is passionate about making embroidery accessible to everyone by offering sponsorships to young designers and even running the London Embroidery School to teach beginners classes to those who are interested in getting a taste of what embroidery has to offer.

What is your favourite thing about stitchery?

The variety of people I meet and the wonderful peace you can find mid way through an stitching project.

What do you make of the modern craft scene?

The modern craft scene has come on leaps and bounds in the time I have been involved in the industry.  It is competing successfully with other disciplines in a way it has never done before.

Do you have any unusual talents we might not know about?

I fancy myself as somewhat of a cat whisperer!
