How long have you been involved in the world of stitch?
My first ever stitch was in 2007 one summer holiday, however it wasn’t until two years later that I started creating my own patterns and stitching as a hobby.
What is your favourite thing about stitchery?
There are lots of things about cross stitching that I enjoy. But the fact that I can watch movies and TV shows while stitching has always been a draw. Before I ever picked up a needle and thread I was interested in films, but unlike before where I felt I was stealing away time, now I can multi-task and have an excuse to divulge my hobbies.
What do you make of the modern craft scene?
A mixture of good and bad feelings I would say. Its become a bit of a fad now, and that gives rise to the weekend project-ers, which leads to a lot of the same patterns being everywhere. However that also allows great things to happen.
When someone is brilliant at what they do they can be seen and get notoriety quickly, recognition is given to people who create epic pieces, and boundaries are pushed and traditional craft mediums challenged. This ‘new blood’ as it were, is leading craft into a recognised art medium, and being part of that is an amazing experience.
But that said, craft has always stayed fairly true to itself. It’s a way of expressing yourself and being creative without people judging. Whilst the modern scene is gaining momentum, craft will always be a fantastic hobby.
Do you have any unusual talents we might not know about?
I have a few secret talents. None of any use. I can put my foot behind my head whilst standing. I only found that out the other day. Imagine the conversation that made me try…
Lord Libidan has made so many cool cross stitches, we had to share some of them! Be amazed!
This last piece is LL’s latest work, and you must see the accompanying video – it will blow your mind!
