I have lived in Milton Keynes since 1982 and have witnessed many changes as the new town has grown and matured, but some of its founding design principles endure, the chief of which is our grid system of roads and roundabouts.
Cursed by visitors who fail to understand the (almost) entirely logical road numbering system and cannot perceive any landmarks, this system is much appreciated by established residents, who navigate their way around easily, observing the variations in roadside and roundabout landscaping.
My son, who was born here, cannot imagine any better place to live. Why? “It’s so colourful”, he said; “Look at all the trees and how they change through the seasons. I love it.” “Yes,” said I. “Me too”.
