Thread Artist Hayley Mills-Styles is currently working on a project about the people of Leeds! It takes stories from the past and translates them to textile pieces. Hayley uses a digital sewing machine to create the work, which she began using at university after losing inspiration in her embroidery techniques. You can see a video of the mighty machine in action on Hayley’s YouTube!
One approach to the project takes vintage maps of the Leeds areas and stitched portraits of the story tellers themselves onto paper and filmoplast. Another works with text and handkerchiefs!
