Stitchgasm – Marjolein van Vessem

It's another Stitchgasm from Mr X Stitch - the home of contemporary embroidery

Thanks to Marjolein for getting in touch to share her latest work. Here’s what she said about it:

“I have never made anything like this before. My thoughts, feelings and needle work all came together in this. It is about the people fleeing their country and go over the Mediterranean from Turkey to Greece or Italy. So many people drown and when surviving, people come to Europe. They are put in camps and they are not welcome. I feel ashamed of my government( Dutch) and of Europe. I am disappointed in the people that do not welcome these people.  I used a Dutch song: ‘The world belongs to everyone- everyone belong to the world’ of a famous Dutch singer, The Lau, as an inspiration.”

Marjolein van Vessem's Hand Embroidery

It’s a great piece, full of detail, texture and vibrancy. Deep messages interpreted in stitch is just what we like round here.
