Welcome to Tiny Pricks, the global craftivism project created and organised by Diana Weymar. "On Jan. 8th, 2018 Trump declared, “I am a very stable genius” and that was the beginning of Tiny Pricks . Tiny Pricks No 1 by Diana Weymar "I stitched this statement into a piece of my maternal grandmother’s abandoned needlework from the 1960s and posted a photo of it on Instagram. The feedback was so positive that I made a personal commitment to create a material record of the Trump presidency. I thought I would make a piece a week but it quickly became a daily practice as it was nearly impossible to keep up with all the issues, quotes, and tweets I considered important to document. Tiny Pricks No 77 by Diana Weymar "Like so many others, I am trying to process this presidency in a way that doesn’t involve withdrawing from following politics. This project is about witnessing, recording, taking note, and paying attention. Paying attention to detail. The devil is in the details. Tiny Pricks No 130 by Diana Weymar "After making about a hundred Tiny Pricks, I opened the series up to the public. I have given workshops for Tiny Pricks in Victoria BC, Princeton NJ, NYC, Brooklyn NY, and Nantucket MA. The Textile Arts Center (Brooklyn), Planthouse Gallery (NYC), the Wing (NYC), and students at Princeton University have hosted workshops. Many people from around the world have signed up “remotely” and are sending pieces in the mail. Others have hosted workshops in their homes and donated family textiles. One participant drove through Maine visiting antique and thrift stores to find handkerchiefs and doilies for Tiny Pricks! Checking my mailbox now brings unprecedented joy as pieces arrive! Tiny Pricks No 372 by Shannon Peck "About thirty Tiny Pricks were exhibited at Princeton University earlier this month. At the end of October, the series will travel to Ulster University in Belfast, Northern Ireland with Build Peace. There will be an exhibit of all completed pieces at The Mule Gallery in San Francisco, CA in April 2019. Tiny Pricks No 229 by Julie Jackson "Tiny Pricks will continue as long as Trump is in office and eventually be published in book form. Given the volume of his output, we are already forgetting what he has said. Tiny Pricks counterbalances the impermanence of Twitter, social media, and Trump’s statements by using textiles that have provided and symbolized warmth, comfort, decoration, care, and a sense of shared family history."
