Stefanie Mittman – InLace Jewelry
Stefanie Mittman is the designer behind Berlin based brand InLace Jewelry.
Mittman is designing and making beautiful contemporary jewellery in bobbin lace. I love Mittman’s modern interpretation of lace that is made to be worn, particularly her stunning lace collars. Lacemaking is a time consuming, skilled and intricate craft that I believe needs to be shown off. I often think about how lace pieces could be better designed for and displayed in contemporary every day settings. Mittman’s lace jewellery does this so perfectly.
In describing her work Mittman says its all about working with the old technique called bobbin lace in a very simple and minimalistic way and keeping it alive. Her biography tells us that Mittmann finished her studies of textile design in 2014 and quickly decided to turn her passion for handcrafts, bobbin lace and crochet into her profession by starting her own brand, InLace Jewelry. Stefanie’s interest and love for the “open” character of lace, especially of bobbin lace, shows in each and every piece of the collection and keeps the traditional craft alive…
Mittman describes how bobbin lace has lots of different patterns and I want to put it in a contemporary context giving it a younger look and making it more wearable. Mittman says she is inspired by the lace artist Olivia Valentine, as she also works with lace in a very modern way.
