My Lacemaking Journey
A representation of the places that encouraged me step by step as I developed from a traditional to free style lace maker.
Battersea (late 1960s) – College of Education – A special study on the history of lace in costume.
Brighouse (early 1970s) – Pillow and bobbins inherited from a relative who lived there.
Ripon (1970s) – A weekend at an adult education college learning the craft.
Bradford (1970s) – Evening class lessons.
Chelmsford (late 1990s) – Returning after a long break to weekly classes.
Billericay (2000s) – Moved here to a class where I was encouraged to experiment.
Knuston (2000s) – Joined 98 Lace – a national group of Art lacemakers.
Prague (2021) – Online course during lockdown from a group who visited Prague.
