This week’s Cutting (& Stitching) Edge features a good friend and personal hero of mine, Penny Nickels.
Penny is a Texan living in Portland, we’ve featured her work on occasion here, and we were thrilled when she agreed to be a part of the Mr X Stitch family.
Penny’s Needle Exchange posts are some of the most interesting posts we’ve featured on here, and they really reflect her passion for the subject of art and textiles.
Penny’s life has been immersed in art and she lives and breathes it. She is a truly creative individual.
One of the things that we love about Penny is her ability to conquer new techniques with ease.
Just when we think we’ve seen everything she’s capable of, Penny produces something new that blows us away. This lace self-portrait is the latest example of her phenomenal talent.
Penny is a fantastic talent, and it’s clear that she’s nowhere near finished pushing the boundaries of needlework and textiles. She does it with passion and enthusiasm and, indeed, a healthy dose of chutzpah as well.
To know Penny is to love Penny and to be constantly amazed by her.
You can find Penny at her blog and the This Is Handmade site.
